Dua Lipa has quickly taken the music industry by storm. Everything from her rock hard abs, to her amazing outfits but especially with her beautiful and unique voice that can hit all the high notes but is also deep and guttural reeking of soul that reminds me of Amy Winehouse (Listen to her cover of 'Tears Dry on Their Own' if you don't believe me.), it all makes her the perfect pop star. I'm not sure how to explain it but her voice sounds like sex and I wanna listen to it all day long.
She has collaborated with big names like Chris Martin, Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix, Miguel, the list goes on and on. But, it's her impeccable lyrics (she writes all of her own songs, the only exception is 'Be The One') that combine heartbreak and sadness with beats you can shake your booty to that keep us coming back for more. She's painfully honest in her songs, and that's what makes me love her, she's someone who's not afraid to go THERE.
Today is the queen's 23rd birthday and she is one of my favorite woman on planet earth. So I thought for today's post I would make a list of Dua Lipa's 22 songs ranked from worst to best. I will also be including songs she's featured in as well but not covers but if you want some great covers to listen to by her, her 'Do IWanna Know', 'The Hills', and 'I'm Not The Only One' covers are absolutely incredible.
22. One Kiss (Calvin Harris feat. Dua Lipa)
Listen .... I know everyone loves this song, it was number one for over two months or something but I just can't stand it. It's not like it's different from her other songs or anything, it's very similar but the beat just annoys me and the lyrics do too. I'm genuinely having anxiety over having to force myself to dance to it at her concert so she doesn't see me in the front row and think I hate her.
21. Room For 2
I'm gonna be real with you guys, I'm not a huge fan of this song. I love when Dua's singing but the choir (?) singing I just find annoying and I always skip this song just for that reason, it's definitely different from the rest of her album. I do love about this song however that she's talking about a relationship that was bad, they pushed and shoved her to tumble her down and now they can't undo that, but at the end of the day she hopes they change and get better.
20. My Love (Wale feat. Dua Lipa, WizKid, & Major Lazor)
Dua has done many collaborations but this one is my least favorite (and I still love it, a queen). This song is filled with a beat you can dance to all summer and mixed with Dua's beautiful voice and decent lyrics. I love it, and she performs it even better live.
19. New Love
This is when things started getting hard for me, ranking her songs because they're all really good. But, this song has maybe the most heartbreaking lyric on the album, "I've been through mountain and seas trying to get you to come back to me." This song is so heartbreaking because it's about a girl who keep working for a relationship and trying to make it work but really she just keeps going down the path of getting her heart broken over and over again. She eventually realizes it's not going to work and she needs a new love, hopefully someone who will treat her better.
18. Homesick
This song is kind of Dua's hidden gem on the album. It's so different from all of her other songs because it's slow, it's not something you can necessarily dance to but it has beautiful lyrics. (She collaborated with Chris Martin in writing it and he also sings !) It's about missing your lover when you're away from them and feeling like even though you're doing all these amazing things, none of it matters because you can't share it with that person. It's heartbreaking but filled with love which Dua doesn't really have on the rest of the album, most of it's saying fuck you or talking about the end of a relationship.
17. Bad Together
Dua has a lot of self reflection in her songs, she talks often about staying in bad relationships or her mistakes in her relationships. This song talks about how both her and her lover are bad for each other, but she feels like because they're both damaged then that makes them perfect for each other. They can be bad but if they're bad together than that's better.
16. Last Dance
Listen, if there's anything Dua Lipa knows how to do, it's make a song that you can dance your booty off to, and she definitely does that with this song. Very similar to her song 'No Goodbyes' it's about the end of a relationship, or a relationship that she knows is going to crash one day but she doesn't care, she wants to put all the cards on the table and hold nothing back. She doesn't want to let it go but she feels it was all worth it to experience what they had.
15. No Goodbyes
This might be one of the saddest songs on Dua's album. It's the end of a relationship and she knows that it will hurt, hoping that one day it will be okay but just for tonight she wants to forget that they have to say goodbye and she just wants to be in love, just for tonight. It's such a sad song because they've tried to fix their relationship and nothing's worked but this is their last try and if it doesn't work than she knows it has to end and at this point their both just using each other to feel okay.
14. Hotter Than Hell
Dua Lipa has said multiple times that she uses music to show this persona of her being confident and she definitely achieves that with this song. It's all about a woman knowing her worth and saying "I'll give you what you want, what you need and I'll give it to you better than anyone." The relationship is obviously not good if the girl has to prove that to her partner but, she thinks if he does the right things (sexually) then maybe they can make it because of how good she is and how good they can be together. Just tying it back into the sadness that Dua writes so well. And that nod to Arctic Monkeys is just incredible.
13. Be The One
When you're releasing your first single from your debut album, you've gotta make sure it's pretty good and Dua Lipa did just that. This track has that pop element that's throughout Dua's entire album with that honesty in every song, even though this is the only track she didn't write. It's about a woman who's practically begging her partner to give her another chance and forgive her for everything she's done wrong because she could be the one for them. It showcased her amazing voice and all the highnotes she can hit and jumpstarting her music career.
12. Genesis
I think the opening lyric, "in the beginning, god created heaven and earth for what it's worth I think that he might have created you first" is one of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard and the song just keeps getting better from there. But, in typical Dua Lipa fashion, the song is about the ending of a relationship. She's desperately asking how to get back to the beginning of the relationship because now that it's over she doesn't know how to breathe or live, she feels like she's dying without them. It makes for a great opening track to her album, setting up the theme for the rest of album.

11. Garden
Dua Lipa has a few nods to religion and God in the album (the other being Genesis) but she really makes it obvious in this song about the Garden of Eden. This song is all about a relationship that was so good but now it's time to leave, leaving behind all the good things in the relationship because its become bad, no longer "paradise" as the Garden of Eden is known as. This song is so interesting to me because she talks about how they used to do all these happy things together, swimming in the ocean, running in the open, walking around his apartment smiling but, now they know all the bad things that come with the relationship and its ruined those happy memories they have. She also talks about how there's always a price to being in "paradise" and wondering if all this pain was worth it. Such an interesting topic to write a song on and it makes for a great track.
10. Dreams
Dua Lipa channelled the mind of every woman who has ever had a crush before with this song. This song is about a woman who has a crush and has dreams about him saying he wants her, that he'll never leave her and that he'll love her right. Even though you know it's not real, you just want it to be real so bad. Every single person has done this before when they have a crush, constantly imagining them saying they like you, they want you, it becomes a drug thinking about that and imagining that so often.
9. Thinking 'Bout You
I've talked multiple times about how honest Dua is in her songwriting but with this one she got really dark. She talks about using drugs and alcohol to help get through her breakup but when that stops working, what do you do? It's an amazing song about facing that sadness of a breakup and accepting that it's over but she also has a verse of wanting to say what she wants to say before it's too late and the relationship is really over.
8. Begging
This song is different than every other song on her album, most of the other songs have got the 'fuck you, I don't want you anymore' vibe about them, or they're sad love songs.'Begging' is about wanting someone so badly, just wanting them to say that they'll love you and take care of you. It's an interesting track for her album but it goes with her overall theme of the album and I headbang hARD to it and so does Dua, so it's just a bonus.
7. Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
Dua Lipa has said this is her favorite song on the album and honestly who could blame her, its got the most pop element of any other song and the best beat to shake your booty to. Its a song about a woman who has the power in a relationship, and a list of one night stands. But, the best part of this song is how the woman has confidence, she doesn't feel the need to apologize for who she is or what she wants. If she wants to have sex with a different person every night then she can and she does. I think that's a great message to send out to the world and the mwah is just so damn cute.
6.. Lost In Your Light (feat. Miguel)
Dua and Miguel's soulful voices together make for a stunning duet about being so in love you can't see anything in front of you but, never wanting to leave that feeling. I love this song because it's different than her other songs because it's about being in love and HAPPY. She has songs about being in love but it's all sad and about her trying to get over it, so this one is a bit of a refresher and combined with Miguel's bEAUTIFUL voice, this song makes for magic.
5. High (Whethan feat. Dua Lipa)
Dua Lipa's voice + The Fifty Shades franchise is a match made in heaven. I don't think I truly appreciated this song before seeing her perform it live. The choreography mixed with her voice makes this one of the best songs of hers to listen to and makes me firmly know yet again that I am gay and that Dua Lipa is one of the best live performers in recent years, her ability to do all these dances and sing back to back to back is really impressive.
4. New Rules
The day I discovered Dua Lipa for the first time, I typed in "songs to help get over a breakup" on google and this song popped up. I listened to it and even though I feel it's more of a song for girls going through an amicable breakup and not a broken heart type breakup, I instantly became addicted to Dua. I mean who wouldn't with a video like this one, with kick ass choreography, girls looking out for each other, the costumes, the setting, and her VOICE. It was an eye opening experience and this song still bangs the 600th time I've heard it as much as it did the first time and it truly helps when going through a break up to just listen to it and remember not to do the thing, just don't do it. (Although, not listening to the rules did help Dua so idk girl do what you want.)
3. IDGAF
Oh boy, this song is just amazing. I discovered Dua when I was going through a pretty nasty break up as I've mentioned before, and this song was my saving grace. He was a fuckboy who didn't just break my heart, he ripped it out, ripped it and half and jumped on it, it was pretty bad and he kept trying to come back to me. But, I would listen to this song and remind myself that I'm a bad bitch who deserves better and I shouldn't cry over a fuckboy who doesn't care about me. Miss Dua did that with HER MIND.
2. No Lie (Sean Paul feat. Dua Lipa)
At first this song was lower on my list because I felt weird making Dua's top two songs collabs with other artists because all of her solo stuff is SO good but I just can't deny that this song is so good and it's one of the first songs I play when I'm in the mood for some Dua so that's why it got the number two slot. Usually I'm not into Sean Paul and the type of music he makes but this collaboration with Dua Lipa makes for some goooooood music. A song about finding a woman in a club and approaching her for a "fun" night out isn't an original idea, not at all but, Dua playing a woman who actually wants to have a night out with him and welcomes the idea, is. This is also the song I listen to on repeat at the gym, I'm not exactly sure why, if it's the beat or just hearing Dua's voice makes me want to work harder for a body like hers but, it gets me working. I really love this song so much that I don't even hate they use the word 'lit' unironically.
1. Scared To Be Lonely (Martin Garrix feat. Dua Lipa)
As I've said many times previously, one of Dua Lipa's best qualities is her ability to be completely honest in her songwriting. She gets to that dark place most people don't want to go and writes songs about it. 'Scared To Be Lonely' is one of the most honest songs I've ever heard in my life about a relationship that isn't good anymore, there's no love there but these people stay with each other because they don't want to be alone, being alone is scary. It's an amazing piece on self reflection with a Martin Garrix's EDM beat that makes it a head banger and booty shaker and has THAT high note from Dua which is why it gets the number one slot.

Dua Lipa has quickly gone to the top of the charts, selling out venues around the world and she deserves it. Hopefully now you know how much she deserves all the success she's getting, how unbelievably talented she is (and beautiful, when I saw her in person for the first time I genuinely was blinded.) I don't wanna get too deep but as I've said, I discovered Dua when I was going through a really bad break up. He was my first love and he broke my heart pretty bad. I listened to Dua every single day while I was going through that because she has a song for every emotion of going through a break up. I was sad and missing him? Thinking 'Bout You. I wanted to get back together? New Rules. I wish things ended differently? Begging. Fuck him he hurt me, I deserve better? IDGAF. She truly wrote an album that perfectly describes a broken heart and I'll forever be grateful to her for helping get me through that hard time. I hope she knows how talented she is and how much I love her.
All The Love x, Amalia
